7 days of culture, adventure and skills culminating with the 400 year old Sami reindeer market.
In the first days we will dive into the traditional skills. Several hours each day will be dedicated to crafting and learning, both inside and out.
I generally wait to meet the group to determine the pace of the class depending on the group's needs and abilities. Because the classes are small it is possible to accommodate both beginners and more advanced participants.
The last 3 days will be market days, you can spend time experiencing the Sami culture while still participating in activities planned for the class.
There is a vast program of events all over town, music and dancing!
Several hours each day will be dedicated to crafting and learning, both indoors and out.
Some of the skills we may cover include:
Tracking
Friction fire making
Buck saws
Snow shelters
Knife making
Fat lamps and torches
Skiing and snowshoeing
Simple but cozy accommodation in a rustic setting on the outskirts of this historic reindeer herding town.
Watch the Aurora Borealis racing across the sky on a clear night insulated by reindeer skins
(if we’re lucky!)
Two meals are served each day (they are paleo diet based on reindeer and elk meat with vegetables and other local foods.)
